A rose bush

Yesterday Blogger was not letting me post (sorry) today it seems to be OK. Here is a rose bush. It's a lovely bush, called 'Pierre de Ronsard', I believe, and it's a very hard rose to grow, being rather fragile and delicate. Not the pale green, beige, and rose tints in the flower.

Heat Wave!

It's hot, and doors and windows are shut against the sun and heat. It's shady and cool inside!

Scriborium

This is where the monks would sit and copy illuminated manuscripts. It is very light and quiet - I imagine all the monks sitting silently at tables, with only the scratching of quill pens to be heard.

Heavenly Garden

I live very near Claude Monet's incredible garden - it's on the other side of the Seine River from Montchauvet, but it's a short drive. Since my sister is here, I'm giving her a tour of the region, and thought you might like to go along!

Flax and Poppies

There are two types of flax - one is grown for its seeds and oil, the other for making fabric (linen) Here is the linen flax - with some wild poppies mixed in.

Lace curtain

One thing I noticed here in the village - no matter how run down the shed, there is usually a lace curtain in the window!

Storms

The weather here has been strange for May - we've had lots of rainstorms. This morning it's sunny, but already dark clouds are moving in.

Clouds!

I took this after the storm the other day. A busy sky!

I'll be back on Monday - I'm off to Wiesbaden! See you soon!!

Strawberries!

Strawberries are another sign of spring - although most of the strawberries in France come from Spain, lol. But these are so neat and arranged in such symmetry I couldn't resist a photo.
The shop is the little Arab shop on the corner - the only one in the next-door village open all day long and on most holidays.

Lemon Sky

I was sitting here working when all of a sudden the light in the room turned yellow. I looked out the window and a huge storm was moving over in the south, and the sunset was reflected against the huge cloud, turning everything gold. The light was amazing, but it only lasted a few minutes.

Break of Day

I've always liked the expression 'break of day'. This picture looks like the sky is just cracking open and letting in the dawn.
